Plantation Fruit Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1/4 c. molasses
    1/4 c. dark syrup
    2 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. soda
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. milk
    1 c. nuts, chopped
    1 c. raisins or dates, chopped
Preparation
    Cream thoroughly shortening and sugar.
    Beat in egg, molasses and dark syrup.
    Sift together flour, salt, soda and baking powder.
    Add milk alternately with dry ingredients to cream mixture.
    Stir in nuts and raisins or dates.
    Spread in greased shallow 8 x 12-inch pan.
    Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Cool and cut into bars.
    Spread cool bars with powdered sugar frosting.
