Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 to 1 c. raisins
1 c. dates
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. soda
2 c. sugar
2 c. applesauce
1 c. nuts
3 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg

Preparation

Sift flour, salt and spices and set aside.
Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs, applesauce, raisins, nuts and dates.
Add dry ingredients; mix well, then dissolve soda in 1/4 cup hot water and add last.
Bake in tube pan, slowly, about an hour or until done.
Especially good served with whipped cream.
