Green Tomato Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. small green tomatoes
    3 c. pickling lime
    5 lb. sugar
    3 pt. vinegar
    2 gal. water
    1 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1 tsp. ground allspice
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. ground mace
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
Preparation
    Dissolve lime in water; let lime settle that does not dissolve and pour off.
    Add sliced tomatoes and leave for 24 hours.
    Rinse tomatoes and soak in cold water for 4 hours, changing water every hour.
    Drain well.
    Mix other ingredients and bring to boil.
    Pour over tomatoes and leave overnight.
    Place on stove and boil for 1 hour.
    Place in jars.
    Makes about 12 pints.
