Sweet Lime Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers
    1 c. pickling lime
    2 gal. water
    9 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. alum granules
    2 qt. Heinz vinegar (5% acidity)
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
    1 Tbsp. whole mixed pickling spice
Preparation
    Soak sliced cukes 12 hours in lime water (1 cup to 2 gallons). Rinse several times removing lime.
    Cover in ice water 3 hours; drain
    well.
    Dissolve sugar and salt in Heinz vinegar; add spice bag and boil.
    Pour hot syrup over pickles; let soak overnight.
