Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 cups sugar
    1 1/2 cups water
    1 cup white corn syrup
    4 egg whites (stiffly beaten)
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 cup chopped pecans
Preparation
    Cook sugar, water, and syrup to the soft ball stage; then pour 1/2 of the syrup mixture slowly over the beaten egg whites. Add vanilla.
    Return remainder of syrup mixture to heat and cook to hard ball stage or until syrup crackles when dropped into cold water.
    Continue beating candy while the remaining syrup cooks, and then pour over candy and beat until mixture forms soft peaks and begins to lose its gloss.
    Add nuts.
    Drop from teaspoon, pushing off with a second spoon onto wax paper.
    If Divinity becomes too hard, beat in a few drops of hot water.
