Fay Massie'S Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/2 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. cornmeal
1 finely chopped small onion (optional)
1 beaten egg
3/4 c. milk

Preparation

Sift dry ingredients together.
Add onion.
Add egg and milk, stirring lightly.
Drop a teaspoon of batter for each hush puppy into hot deep fat (360\u00b0), frying only a few at a time.
Fry until golden brown.
Drain on absorbent paper.
Makes 2 dozen.
