Virginia Spoon Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. milk
    1 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. corn meal
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    3 eggs, separated
Preparation
    Scald milk. Sift in corn meal and cook until thickened. Add salt, sugar, shortening and beaten egg yolks. Blend thoroughly and add baking powder. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Turn into greased baking dish and bake in hot oven at 400\u00b0 for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve with a spoon from dish in which bread was baked. Serves 6.
