Sweet Pickle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. large cucumbers
    2 Tbsp. salt
    2 tsp. powdered alum
    1 or 2 Tbsp. pickling spice
    white vinegar
    5 1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Pack large cucumbers in a
    gallon
    jar;
    add salt, alum and spice.
    Fill jar with vinegar.
    Put lid on and let set for 6 weeks.
    Drain.
    Slice cucumbers
    thin.
    Place
    a
    layer
    of sugar and a layer of cucumbers.
    Let set several hours.
    Makes its own syrup.
    It's okay to seal or not seal.
