Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    5 eggs
    2 c. sugar
    1 stick margarine
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. chopped nuts
    1 small can coconut
Preparation
    Mix soda in buttermilk;
    let
    stand
    for a few minutes. Beat egg whites stiff.
    Cream sugar, margarine and shortening; add egg yolks, one at a
    time,
    beating
    well after each addition;\t add buttermilk\talternately
    with
    flour
    to
    creamed mixture.\tStir in vanilla.
    Fold
    in
    whites
    gently.
    Stir in nuts and coconut. Bake in 3 layers for 35 minutes at 325\u00b0.
