Piquant Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 onion, diced
    1 carrot, diced
    1 turnip, peeled and diced
    1 baking potato, peeled and diced
    3 Tbsp. olive or corn oil
    1 1/2 c. dried yellow split peas
    6 c. chicken broth
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    1 bay leaf
    2 tsp. ground cumin
    1/2 to 1 tsp. cayenne pepper to taste
    1 tsp. dried sage
    salt to taste (if desired)
Preparation
    In a medium stock pot, saute vegetables in oil.
    Add peas, broth and seasonings.
    Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 2 hours until peas are well cooked and soup is a thick puree.
    Taste for seasoning, adding salt, if desired.
    Serves 4 and freezes well.
