Baked Beans - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. navy beans
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. granulated or brown sugar
2 Tbsp. molasses (more or less)
1/2 tsp. mustard
2 Tbsp. catsup (if desired)
1 small onion (if desired)
Preparation

Wash beans;
cover with
2 quarts water and soak overnight. Cook slowly until tender.
Drain.
Place half the beans in an earthenware pot or casserole.
Add half of the combined remaining ingredients, adding 1 cup ham broth or chunks of ham.
Add remaining beans and seasonings.
Cover with bean broth or boiling water.
Cover and bake in slow oven at 225\u00b0 to 300\u00b0 at least 2 hours.
When necessary, add water.
One half can or one cup diced tomatoes may be used instead of catsup.
