Black Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    ham hock (desired size)
    black beans*
    1 to 2 onions, chopped
    1 to 2 shallots (optional)
    3 cloves garlic, crushed or 1 tsp. dried
    dried herbs (many can be used)**
    pinch of allspice
    5 to 6 carrots, sliced and cooked
    1 Tbsp. pesto
Preparation
    *Typically found in bags.
    Use 1 to 2 bags, depending on amount of soup one is cooking.
