Pineapple Upside-Down Cake - cooking recipe

1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 (1 lb. 14 oz.) can pineapple slices
1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
Preparation

Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over melted butter in a 10-inch heavy skillet.
Arrange pineapple over brown sugar.
Use cherries too, if desired.
