Ceylonese Beef - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 onions, sliced
    2 lb. chuck, trimmed and cubed
    1/2 tsp. freshly ground pepper
    1/2 tsp. ground cumin
    4 garlic cloves, minced
    3 Tbsp. flour
    1 Tbsp. tomato paste
    3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1/2 tsp. salt
    6 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
    1/2 tsp. turmeric
    6 bay leaves
    2 c. beef broth
Preparation
    In a large heavy pan, cook onions in oil over moderate heat, stirring until golden.
    In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons vinegar, salt, pepper and beef.
    Add this to the onions and cook over moderate heat until beef is browned, 10 to 15 minutes.
    Add cumin, turmeric, garlic and bay leaves.
    Stir for 30 seconds.
