Maraschino Cherry Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 3/4 c. flour
    1 3/4 c. granulated sugar
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. shortening
    1/3 c. juice from cherries
    2/3 c. milk
    16 maraschino cherries, cut in eighths
    2/3 c. unbeaten egg whites (5)
    1/2 c. chopped nuts (your choice)
Preparation
    Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
    Add shortening, juice from cherries, milk and maraschino cherries. Beat with mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
    Add unbeaten egg whites.
    Beat 2 minutes more, scraping bowl constantly.
    Fold in chopped nuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched.
    Cool and ice with frosting.
