Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, torn in bite size pieces
    1/2 c. red onion
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    1/2 c. chopped red/green pepper
    10 oz. frozen peas, thawed and drained
    1 c. salad dressing or mayo
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    10 slices fried bacon, dried and crumbled or 1/2 c. bacon bits
    2/3 c. water chestnuts
Preparation
    Combine in a large bowl or 13 x 9-inch pan the following layers: 1. lettuce and onion, 2. 1/2 cup salad dressing,
    3. celery, peppers and peas,
    4. 1/2 cup salad dressing, 5. sugar, 6. cheese, 7. bacon.
    Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours.
    Add water chestnuts and toss before serving.
