Applesauce Cake(Fruit Cake) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter and shortening
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 c. unsweetened applesauce
    1/2 pt. strawberry preserves
    2 level tsp. baking soda
    1 Tbsp. hot water
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. allspice
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp.vanilla
    1 lb. seedless raisins
    1 c. finely chopped walnuts
    4 c. flour (use 1 c. to roll raisins in)
    1 small jar maraschino cherries, sliced in half
Preparation
    Cream butter and shortening with sugar.
    Dissolve baking soda in hot water.
    Mix in order given.
    Bake in floured and greased tube cake pan at 350\u00b0 for 1 3/4 hours or until done.
    Cake can be baked slower.
    It is moist and weighs about 5 pounds.
