Santa'S Thumbprints - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. butter flavored Crisco
    1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 egg
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. quick oats (uncooked)
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
    1 3/4 c. finely chopped nuts
    2/3 c. fruit preserves
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Beat Crisco and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
    Add combined oats, flour and salt.
    Mix well.
    Form 1 inch balls and roll in nuts.
    Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Press centers with thumb and fill with preserves.
    Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
    Cool completely.
    Yields 4 1/2 dozen.
