24 Hour Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce
    1 c. shredded bell pepper
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 c. red onion rings
    1 can LeSueur peas
    1 c. mayonnaise
    3/4 c. crumbled bacon or bacon bits
Preparation
    Use trifle bowl and layer all ingredients, starting with lettuce on bottom, then onion slices, peas, celery and bell pepper (all colors if desired), then bacon.
    Take one cup mayonnaise; smooth across top to seal.
    Sprinkle mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon sugar and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
    Cover and chill 24 hours; toss just before serving.
