Date-Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. cut dates
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg, beaten
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 1/4 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped nut meats
Preparation
    In medium saucepan, combine dates, water, butter and vanilla. Cook 5 minutes.
    Cool.
    Add egg and sugar.
    Sift flour with remaining ingredients and add to mixture.
    Put in a greased and wax paper lined 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
    Bake in moderate oven, 350\u00b0, for 1 hour or until done.
    Cool.
    Frost and decorate with nuts and candied cherries.
    Keeps well.
    Can be frozen.
