Chop Suey - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 1/2 lb. veal, pork, lamb or beef
    1 tsp. salt (for each 1 lb. meat)
    pepper
    1 c. water
    2 Tbsp. butter
    2 c. onion
    2 c. celery
    1/2 c. green peppers
    1/4 c. pimento
    1 small can mushrooms
    1/4 c. cornstarch plus 1/4 c. water
    1 1/2 Tbsp. Chinese molasses
    a little soy sauce
Preparation
    Brown meat in butter; sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    Cover meat with water; steam for 30 minutes.
    Add 1/4 cup water to butter.
    Add celery, green peppers and onion.
    Cover and steam 5 or 8 minutes.
    Combine vegetables with the meat.
    Add mushrooms, Chinese molasses and sauce.
    Add cornstarch mix.
    Cook until boiling point.
    Cook gently for about 5 minutes.
