Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 c. butter, softened
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Preparation

In bowl, mix sugar and butter until smooth and creamy.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Mix well.
In bowl combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar.
Mix well.
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, a little at a time.
Mix well after each addition. Drop by teaspoons several inches apart on a cookie sheet.
For flat cookies, press with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar before baking.
Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes about 4 dozen.
