Quick Sauerbraten - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 to 4 lb. roast
    1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    3/4 cup chopped onions
    3 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. coarsly ground pepper
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1/8 tsp. ground cloves
    1/8 tsp. ground allspice
    1 bay leaf
    1 cup water
    2/3 cup red wine vinegar
    1/2 cup water
    1/2 cup flour
Preparation
    Brown roast on both sides in large dutch oven.
    Combine onion, brown sugar, salt, pepper, ginger, cloves, allspice, bay leaf, 1 c. water and vinegar.
    Mix well and pour over roast. Cover and simmer or bake at 325\u00b0 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until tender, turning over roast once.
    Remove roast to serving platter.
    Remove bay leaf.
    Stir 1/2 c. water into flour then stir into pan drippings. Cook, stirring constantly.
    Add water, if needed.
    Makes great gravy.
    Serve with \"lots\" of mashed potatoes.
