Cheddar Chowder - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. boiling water
    2 c. cauliflowerets
    1 c. diced potatoes
    1/2 c. sliced carrots
    1/2 c. sliced celery
    1/4 c. chopped onion
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/4 c. butter
    1/4 c. flour
    2 c. (8 oz.) shredded Cheddar cheese
    1 c. cubed cooked ham (optional)
    2 c. milk
Preparation
    In saucepan, combine water, vegetables, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 10 minutes. Do not drain. In a large saucepan, melt butter. Stir in flour, then milk and heat to boiling. Continue simmering, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add Cheddar cheese; stir until melted. Add undrained vegetables and ham, if used. Heat through but do not boil. If desired, add cooked broccoli.
