Cherry Carnival - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 3/4 cup flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/4 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
    1 large egg
    3/4 cup milk
    2 cups sour cherries, well drained (reserve juice)
Preparation
    Beat with rotary beater or spoon until smooth, then stir in cherries. Pour into 9 inch square pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 - 40 minutes.
    Serve warm covered with Cherry Sauce.
