Highland Toffee Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 c. melted butter
    2 c. quick cooking oatmeal
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/4 c. light corn syrup
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. semi-sweet chocolate, melted (6 oz. pkg.)
    1/4 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Combine shortening and oatmeal.
    Add sugar, corn syrup, salt and vanilla.
    Mix well.
    Press into well-greased 8 x 8-inch pan. Bake at 400\u00b0 for 12 minutes.
    When cool, loosen edges and remove from pan.
    Coat with melted chocolate; sprinkle with nuts.
    Cut into squares when chilled.
    Makes about 36 squares.
