Johnnycake (Cornbread) - cooking recipe

1/2 c. molasses or 2 Tbsp. sugar and 2 Tbsp. molasses
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
3 Tbsp. shortening
1 c. cornmeal
1/2 c. flour
salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. soda

Note:
If you use sweet milk, add 1 teaspoon soda and 2 teaspoons baking powder.
