Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 medium cucumbers
    8 large white onions
    2 large bell peppers
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. cider vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves (I use ground)
    1 tsp. thyme
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers and slice pretty thin.
    Chop onions and bell peppers into cucumbers.
    Put 1/2 cup salt into this.
    Let stand for 3 hours.
    Drain off water after 3 hours.
    Combine vinegar, sugar and spices in large preserving kettle and bring to a boil. Add drained cucumbers and heat through.
    (Do not boil them.)
    Pack while hot into hot jars and seal at once.
