Fruitcake Cookie "Jewels" - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. shortening (Crisco)
    2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    2 eggs
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    1 c. chopped nuts
    2 lb. chopped candied fruits
    2 c. raisins
    red or green candied cherry halves for top of cookies
Preparation
    Combine flour, salt and soda.
    Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs, beating until fluffy.
    Add buttermilk alternately with flour mixture.
    Add nuts, fruit and raisins.
    Chill dough for several hours, then drop by teaspoons about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets.
    Top each cookie with a cherry half.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 (preheated) for 8 to 10 minutes.
    Yields 6 to 8 dozen.
