Apple "Fritters" - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. cooking apples
    9 oz. plain flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 oz. sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 pt. milk
    oil for deep frying
Preparation
    Peel and core apples.
    Cut into 1/2-inch rings.
    Sift flour and baking powder into bowl.
    Make a well in the center; add sugar and egg in the well.
    Starting from the center, mix egg into flour slowly, adding milk until the batter is smooth.
    Dip the apple rings into batter and deep fry in very hot fat.
    Fry until golden brown.
    Remove and sprinkle with sugar.
