Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 tsp. salt
    5 tsp. alum
    1 tsp. turmeric
    4 tsp. all pickling spice
    1 gal. jar sliced cucumbers
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers (1/4-inch thick) into jar (1 gallon).
    Fill jar with vinegar and spices; let stay for 60 days.
    Drain off vinegar and add dry sugar until jar is full of syrup, made from the sugar.
