Mavis Watson'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced cucumbers
    4 large onions
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. vinegar
    2 Tbsp. cloves
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Mix cucumbers, onions and salt in large pan.
    Pour several trays of ice over mixture and let set for 3 hours, then drain. Heat sugar, vinegar and spices.
    Pour hot mixture over pickles in large pot.
    Bring to boil.
    Fill sterilized jars with pickles and pour hot liquid over pickles until full, then seal.
