Ad Hoc Split-Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 oz. pkg. split peas (green or yellow)
    1 medium onion (yellow)
    2 medium carrots
    4 ribs celery
    5 bay leaves
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Chop onions, carrots and celery. Place split peas, vegetables and seasonings to taste in large pot and add 2 1/2 quarts of water. Cook over low heat for 1 hour or more. Remove bay leaves before serving.
