Cheeseburger Casserole - cooking recipe

1 can tomato soup
1 c. peas (undrained)
salt
pepper
1 lb. ground beef
1/3 c. onion
8 (3/4-inch) cubes American cheese
1 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. shortening
1/3 c. + 1 Tbsp. milk
Preparation

Brown 1 pound ground beef and 1/3 cup onion in skillet; drain off excess fat. Add tomato soup, peas, salt and pepper to taste. Pour mixture into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish; set aside. Make biscuits by sifting together flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add milk and stir until dough clings together. Knead on lightly floured surface 12 times. Divide dough into 8 pieces. Mold dough around cheese. Place dough-cheese balls on top of meat mixture. Bake at 425\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
