Red Cabbage With Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. head red cabbage
    2 Tbsp. butter or chicken fat
    2 c. water
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
    2 cloves
    salt
    1 1/2 Tbsp. flour
    1 tart apple
    1 medium-sized onion, sliced
    1/2 c. red wine vinegar
    juice of 1/2 lemon
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Wash cabbage; cut as for coleslaw. Peel and chop apples. Heat fat in large saucepan and cook apple and onion gently 3 to 4 minutes. Add water, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, cloves, bay leaf and lemon juice. Stir; bring to boil. Add cabbage; mix well. Cover; simmer 45 minutes or until tender. Sprinkle flour over top. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Mix well and cook 5 minutes longer.
