Chicken Continental - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium onion
    1/2 stick butter
    1 (4 or 5 lb.) fryer
    1 can each: cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup
    1 can sliced water chestnuts
    1 can chopped mushrooms
    8 to 10 medium size corn tortillas, tear in small pieces
    1 seeded and chopped jalapeno pepper (optional)
    2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    Saute onion in butter; put in bottom of casserole (do not stir into other ingredients).
    Mix chicken, soups, water chestnuts, mushrooms, tortillas and onion; spread half of this mixture into casserole dish over butter and onion.
    Spread half of shredded cheese over it; add rest of mixture and spread remaining cheese on top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
