Huntsville Church Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. boiling water
    1 lb. raisins
    1/2 c. lard or other shortening
    2 c. white sugar
    1 c. cold water
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    4 c. flour
    1/2 c. nutmeats
    1 Tbsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Pour
    the
    boiling
    water
    over the raisins; boil for 5 minutes.
    Put
    in
    a
    large bowl.
    Add the lard or shortening, sugar, water and baking soda.
    Sift the flour, cinnamon, salt, cloves
    and
    nutmeg
    together; dredge the nutmeats.
    Bake in a dripping pan at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
    Can be served with Lemon Sauce.
