Spiced Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. shredded cabbage (red)
    1/4 c. cider vinegar
    1/2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. ground allspice
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
    2 tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced
    1 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    In a saucepan, combine shredded cabbage with all ingredients except apples and sugar.
    Cover and cook over moderate heat for 15 minutes, tossing several times so the cabbage will cook evenly. Add apples; toss again.
    Cover; cook 5 minutes longer.
    Add sugar. If more water is needed during cooking, add 2 or 3 tablespoons but when the dish is done, all moisture should have cooked away. Yield:
    6 servings.
