Icicle Cucumber Pickle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers, cut up and sliced thin
    1 gal. boiling water
    2 c. salt (best to use plain)
Preparation
    Mix water and salt. Pour over cucumbers and let stand one week. Stir after third day to keep down scum.
    Drain and add alum about the size of a walnut. Powdered will do.
    Cover with boiling water and let stand 24 hours or no more than 2 days.
    Drain and rinse in cold water.
