Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. dates
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. boiling water
1 unbeaten egg
3/4 c. brown sugar
Preparation

Chop dates and nuts. Sprinkle soda over top and then cover with boiling water.
Let stand!
Cream the sugar, shortening and eggs.
Add flour and salt. Add dates and nut mixture (undrained). Pour into a loaf pan and bake in a slow oven at 300\u00b0 for 1 hour.
