Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 (7 1/2 oz.) pkg. chopped dates
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. canned coconut
2 c. Rice Krispies
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
powdered sugar to coat
Preparation

Mix first 3 ingredients in saucepan.
Cook over low heat until mixture bubbles.
Simmer 5 minutes longer.
Remove from stove. Add pecans, coconut, Rice Krispies, vanilla and salt.
Mixture will be thick.
Roll into balls the size of walnuts, then roll in the powdered sugar.
Makes 40 to 50.
Store in a covered container.
