Ingredients

2 c. raisins
1 c. water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 c. nuts
4 c. flour
pinch of cloves
pinch of allspice
1 lb. dates, diced
1 lb. candied cherries and pineapple
Preparation

Boil raisins and water for 5 minutes.
Add the soda; stir. Do not drain off water, as that is your liquid.
Let cool.
Cream shortening.
Beat in eggs.
Add 1 cup flour with baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg, then add remaining 3 cups flour, vanilla and nuts.
To the dough, add a pinch of cloves and a pinch of allspice.
Add the dates, candied cherries and pineapple.
Mix fruit with another 1/2 cup flour; mix well.
Drop by spoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet.
Bake in a 275\u00b0 oven for 25 minutes. Makes 10 dozen.
