Cowboy Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    1 clove garlic
    2 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 c. minced onion
    1/2 c. minced green pepper
    1 tsp. chili powder
    20 oz. can tomatoes
    1/2 c. uncooked rice
    20 oz. kidney beans
Preparation
    Cook ground beef in fat until lightly browned.
    On cutting board, thinly slice garlic.
    Sprinkle with salt and mash thoroughly to pulp.
    Add to beef with onion, green pepper and chili powder.
    Cook 5 minutes.
    Remove from heat and add tomatoes. Combine rice and kidney beans in 2-quart casserole.
    Add hot beef mixture.
    Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour in a 350\u00b0 oven.
