Swedish Kallops(Braised Beef) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. chuck, cut in pieces
    1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1 bay leaf
    5 whole allspice
    5 whole peppercorns
    shortening for sauteing
Preparation
    Roll meat in mixture of flour, salt, pepper and brown sugar. Put shortening in kettle and brown meat, turning occasionally. Add a small amount of water, replacing if necessary.
    Add bay leaf, allspice and peppercorns.
    Cook on low heat 2 hours or until tender.
