Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 2/3 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. chopped nut meats
Preparation
    Mix dates with boiling water and cool to lukewarm.
    Cream butter and sugar; add egg and vanilla and beat well.
    Combine with date mixture, then add flour, sifted with salt and soda.
    Beat until well mixed and add nut meats.
    Bake in a greased 8 x 8-inch cake pan in a 350\u00b0 oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
