Nissen Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (No. 2) can crushed pineapple
    1 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. (1 pkg.) unflavored gelatin
    1/4 c. cold water
    3/4 c. nuts, chopped
    1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
    1/2 pt. whipping cream
Preparation
    Boil pineapple and sugar together for 5 minutes.
    Dissolve gelatin in cold water.
    Add to hot pineapple and stir until dissolved.
    Chill until the mixture is the consistency of unbeaten egg whites.
    Soften cream cheese and whip with a fork until smooth.
    Stir in nuts and add to pineapple mixture.
    Whip cream and fold into the salad.
    Pour into mold or dish.
    Keep in refrigerator.
    You can add a few chopped green and/or red maraschino cherries.
