"Jennie'S" Half Sour Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. water
    pickling cucumbers (to fill 1/2 gal. jar)
    1 c. white vinegar
    4 Tbsp. pickling salt
    crust from rye bread (1 slice)
    1 small onion, sliced
    3 cloves garlic (whole)
    pickling spice and dill to taste (approximately 1/2 tsp.)
Preparation
    Brine:
    Boil water, vinegar and salt 5 to 10 minutes; allow to cool to lukewarm.
