Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 peck cucumbers (small)
    3 pt. vinegar
    1 1/2 c. salt
    4 1/2 qt. boiling water
    9 Tbsp. dill seed or dill weed (fresh)
    9 pieces fresh garlic
    1 to 2 hot pepper pods
    1 1/2 Tbsp. powdered alum
Preparation
    Put boiling water, vinegar and salt into a large pot.
    Bring back to a rolling boil.
    Remove from heat.
    Put cucumbers in pot and let stand for 5 minutes.
    Remove cucumbers with a drip spoon. Pack cucumbers in 9-quart jars.
    To the jars add the dill seed, garlic, 1/4 red hot pepper and alum.
    Reheat liquid and then pour over cucumbers and seal jars.
