Aunt Emily'S Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef, cubed
    flour
    salt and pepper
    2 cloves garlic
    1 onion
    1 c. water
    1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
    12 peppercorns
    3 cloves
    1 bay leaf
    1/2 c. sherry
    cooked carrots, canned potatoes, onions or celery (optional)
Preparation
    Coat beef cubes with mixture of flour, salt and pepper.
    Brown in oil.
    Boil together all other ingredients except vegetables and sherry.
    Add vegetables.
    Add sherry and cook for 1 hour.
    Serves 6 to 8.
