Old-Fashioned Apple Pies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 to 8 large, tart apples
    pastry for 2-crust pie
    1 c. sugar
    2 tsp. flour
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    2 Tbsp. oleo or butter
Preparation
    Pare and core apples; cut in quarters and slice thin.
    Line a 9-inch pie pan with pastry.
    Mix sugar, flour and spices.
    Rub a little sugar mixture into pastry.
    Arrange sliced apples, overlapping in pan.
    Dot with butter.
    Cut slits in top crust. Moisten edges of lower crust and place top crust over apples; press edges together, trim and flute edges.
    Brush with slightly beaten egg white, if desired, or sprinkle lightly with sugar. Bake at 425\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes or until apples are tender.
